Digestion

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by astrology.  I would always read my horoscope in the newspaper or magazines, and often found myself including horoscope scrolls as an impulse purchase at the drug store instead of chocolate bars or gum.  As I have grown older, I have become acutely aware of the moon cycles and how their energy plays upon my own.  This past weekend was no different.

We were treated to a beautiful full moon on Saturday night, marking the final phase of the astrological calendar for 2023.  It was a full moon in Virgo, so I felt even more drawn to the energy being transmitted as I myself am a Virgo.  Listening to details on the significance of this event, I was intrigued by the statement that this full moon was all about digestion - taking in what is necessary to nourish us, and allowing that which doesn't serve us to be set aside.  What stood out to me as I mulled this idea over was how much importance I place on physical digestion in my life, and how little time I have spent considering and incorporating supports around the energetic digestion that is also taking place.

When it comes to physical digestion, I aim to provide my body with healthy and nutrient dense foods that are loaded with all of the building blocks my body requires in order to operate at an optimal level.  I take probiotics and digestive enzymes to ensure that all of the available nutrients are harvested from my meals and are put to use where needed.  These practices are second-nature to me, and I couldn't imagine skipping one or changing anything as I know that the results would be detrimental.

I can honestly say that I have not given nearly as much thought to how I digest energetic inputs.  In fact, I would say that I am often guilty of ignoring this all together, tending to favour activity and busy-ness over slowing down and evaluating what I am taking in and holding onto.  My tendency is to vibrate at a high frequency, skimming over discomfort and focusing instead on the good feelings that come with achievements or milestones being met.  I am definitely a human doing instead of a human being much of the time.

Thinking back to how much better I feel physically when my body is able to fully utilize the nourishment I provide, I started to wonder how it would feel to slow down and allow myself to integrate more of the non-physical inputs that my body is being fed.  Imagine slowing down and allowing things to actually sink in and either find space to be held onto or be acknowledged and passed on.  In my current "practice" of skimming along the surface, I feel like I am taking in and holding onto much more than I need to, and potentially missing out on opportunities for growth simply because I am too near capacity to acknowledge new information or ideas.

I am grateful for this insight and am going to be making a concerted effort to find ways of improving my energetic digestion as we move through this final phase of the astrological calendar.  I am also going to go against my typical grain, and instead of womandating a strict meditation regimen (which would be bound to fail), I will instead allow myself to find instinctive ways to uncover moments of stillness.  How is your energetic digestion these days?  Perhaps we could all use some type of mindful "digestive enzyme" to help us ensure that we are being fully nourished by all the Universe is providing us.
